This year the fixtures and dates are:
- Surrey CCC v Somerset CCC (Specsavers County Championship Division 1) four days starting on Wednesday 20 June (11.00 am start – gates open 9.30 am).
- Please note, there is no one-day game.
Surrey will host Somerset in the 80th anniversary Guildford Cricket Festival next June.
Surrey have signed Indian captain and master batsman Virat Kohli for the month of June, which means he is due to appear in the Guildford Festival match against Somerset from June 20-23, when the sides meet in Specsavers County Championship Division One.
This is likely to bring many extra spectators to Woodbridge Road as Kohli has a massive following, plus worldwide media attention, and enable us to welcome may new people to the ground.
When the sides last met at Guildford, in 2006, records were smashed. Somerset achieved a new highest Championship score at the ground of 688-8dec thanks to Australian opener Justin Langer’s 342 – the best individual score at Woodbridge Road – only for it to be overtaken by Surrey’s 717, led by Rikki Clarke (214) and Mark Ramprakash (167).
That second division match was played in record heat, the temperature on the first day being recorded at 36.5c just up the A3 at Wisley, the hottest ever recorded in the United Kingdom since records began in 1659, and coming in the middle of a hot July it meant that batting on a blameless pitch was made even easier by lightning-fast boundaries. A thunderstorm early on the final day ended the bowlers’ torment and forced a draw.
Somerset escaped relegation from Championship Division One last season thanks to champions Middlesex being deducted two points and will hope to continue Surrey’s miserable run in four-day matches at Woodbridge Road, having failed to win since 2002. They lost to champions Essex earlier this year.
Other Surrey matches at Guildford
In July and August, the Surrey Stars will play three matches in the Kia Super League, the visitors being Southern Vipers on Sunday July 22, Yorkshire Diamonds seven days later and then Loughborough Lightning on Wednesday August 9 in the women’s T20 competition.
Why is it called the Guildford Cricket Festival?
It’s the traditional name for the week when Surrey CCC come and play professional cricket at Guildford. Surrey’s principal home ground is of course The Kia Oval in London, but the county has played at Guildford since 1938.
There is always a distinct Festival atmosphere – our ground at Woodbridge Road is transformed by sponsors’ tents on the boundary edge, along with seating for over 2,000 spectators.
Surrey is making increasing use of The Sports Ground at Guildford – including the Surrey Stars Women’s T20 and Surrey 2nd XI matches.

Are there facilities for Surrey CCC members?
Yes. There is a reserved stand at the Railway End of The Sports Ground and an adjacent marquee with seating for Surrey CCC Members. These are on the Dapdune Wharf side of the ground, furthest from the Woodbridge Road. The marquee includes a bar, which has concessionary prices for members.
Can I reserve seats?
It is not possible to book seats in advance. Seating is unreserved, except for some areas (clearly designated) set aside for Surrey Members. Spectators may bring their own chairs if they so wish.
Where may I sit?
Apart from the Surrey Members stand and corporate marquees, all seating is unreserved and it is best to arrive early to choose where you wish to sit. You may bring your own chairs.
May I park my car in the ground?
No. The Pavilion car park is closed on all days. Cars are parked on the grass at the Railway End of the ground, but spaces are allocated only to players, match officials and guests of those companies which hire the corporate hospitality tents. We will make every effort to allow parking at the Railway End by cars with a Blue Badge.
If you do not have a car park pass or a Blue Badge, you will not be able to park inside the ground.
Where else can I park?
Car parking in the centre of Guildford is difficult. The nearest Guildford Borough public car park is at Mary Road GU1 4QU.
On Saturday 23rd June only, there is free parking on a first come first served basis at Guildford College, Stoke Road GU1 1EZ (less than 10 minutes’ walk).
Alternatively, there is Guildford Park & Ride.
The nearest drop-off point on the Park & Ride bus route would be at Guildford Bus Station, from where it is a short walk back to Woodbridge Road.
May I buy food and drink at the Festival?
Volunteers from Guildford Cricket Club operate the popular Public Refreshment Tent, which is located at the Railway End of the ground. All profits from the Refreshment Tent go towards junior cricket at Guildford CC.
Volunteers from Guildford CC also operate the famous Public Beer Tent. This is also located at the Railway End of the ground. Hogs Back real ales, chilled beers and lagers are sold.
Surrey CCC advises that 4 cans of beer/lager/cider per adult spectator may be brought into the ground and the stewards will enforce this. Spectators are not allowed to bring in glass bottles.
