To members, guests and past players

It is a very exciting prospect to celebrate 150 years since the original Guildford Cricket Club began playing in the town. This will be a unique celebration over five days where everyone is welcome, so please come down to Woodbridge Road, watch some cricket, meet old friends, make some new ones and enjoy some food and a drink with us. We look forward to seeing you.

Chairman, Robert Charles

This is the programme –

Monday July 18: Ladies Day: The social will include a curry in the evening.

The Guildford Ladies XI will start off the 150 year celebrations, on the 18th July with a 40 over match against a mixed club XI from the different women’s sections from across the county, there will be county representations also who will be play in either side.
Katherine Robson

Tuesday July 19: All day game v Dolphins CC for players of third and fourth team level – followed by evening BBQ.

Dolphins CC are a collection of the great and the good (and some that believe they are) who I have had the pleasure of playing cricket with through the years. There are representatives from my time at British Universities, Eastbourne CC, Brighton University CC, Slough CC, Outwood CC and Chiddingfold CC, plus a few obligatory ringers thrown in from tours and cricket weeks gone by. All desperate to rekindle past glories, the team will be full of noise with no shortage of confidence. Whether that can still be backed up with talent remains to be seen.

Wednesday July 20: All-day game against the Wanderers CC for players of first and second team level. This will also incorporate a hog roast, with past players, sponsors and guests all invited.

Upon joining the club in 2012 little did I know that four years down the line I would find myself in the privileged position where I would have the honour of captaining the 1st XI side for the clubs 150 years anniversary celebrations.

The club is a wonderful place to play cricket and has something to offer everyone. We never fail to entertain when taking the field and thus we look forward to putting on a true spectacle in elebration of the previous and future 150 years of Guildford CC.
Joe Pipkin

Thursday July 21: U19 Premier League T20 match, followed by a social bowlout competition. Food will be a bring-and-share from the parents.

An additional T20 will be played on the Thursday before the under 19 premier league game. This will be an internal game for Guildford members starting at 1pm.

Back at the pavilion, our ‘star bakers’ will have a delicious selection of savoury treats as well as scones with jam and cream plus Kate Perceval’s legendary cakes, rivaling those of Mary Berry herself!
Justine Macmillian

Friday July 22: Junior day: BBQ during the day and early evening.

We welcome Horsley & Send as our challengers in a melee of Big Bash cricket across a number of age groups. Utilising pitches at the bottom of the ground and the main square, we will host a succession of quickfire 10-over games with the emphasis on getting as many juniors playing throughout the day as possible. Just to keep the challenge honest, Steve Isaac and myself – the respective junior chairmen have a wager on the outcomes of most wins for our respective clubs. It will culminate in an all in bowl off between the two clubs where everyone gets a chance to score a point, whether a player, a manager, a parent or bystander, it promises to be a fun conclusion to a great week.
Neil Garrett

Saturday 23rd July: Guildford CC v Weybridge CC – 1st XI fixture will be followed with a delicious paella dish for evening food.

Sunday 24th July: Guildford CC v Royal Household CC at Great Windsor Park.

Guildford will play the Royal Household in Her Majesty’s home grounds, a fabulous experience for all players and Supporters. Those wishing to attend as guests to contact Tim Walter.

Thursday 29th July: Lord’s Cricket Ground

Our celebrations will have a very special climax. Our Chairman Robert Charles has pulled off a remarkable coup and secured for us a match against Cross Arrows CC on Thursday, 29th September on the Nursery at Lord’s Cricket Ground in St John’s Wood, London NW8. This will be an all-day match (10.45 start).

The Cross Arrows traditionally play matches at the end of September on the Nursery Ground, which those familiar with Lord’s will know is the practice area behind the media centre and in front of the indoor cricket school. The Cross Arrows team is mainly made up of MCC staff.

It is a huge honour for a club to secure a fixture against the Cross Arrows. This will be a very special opportunity for our best cricketers to play at the world’s most famous cricket ground.

[clear] To mark this occasion, we are proposing to hold a London lunch in the Nursery Pavilion on the day of the match. The Nursery Pavilion is a top class corporate hospitality facility immediately adjacent to and with a wonderful view of the Nursery Ground.

The proposed arrangements will include morning coffee from 11 am, pre-lunch drinks at noon and then a three course lunch with wine served from 12.45 pm. There will be a master of ceremonies and a fundraising auction of special memorabilia and attractive sporting packages and items.

This will be an exceptional opportunity to entertain business contacts and friends in a relaxed atmosphere at a world class venue. It is one of the most ambitious events that the Club has organised in its history.

At this stage we are seeking Club Members to underwrite tables of 10 persons. The all-inclusive cost for a table of 10 will be £895 + VAT.

To make the event viable, we need to sell 10 tables. I have personally underwritten one. If you would like to secure a table or would like further information, please contact Chad Murrin 07767 224632
