Good to see the weather is at last turning a little warmer as the proper season gets underway.
The Under 15s were first into action winning their ECB cup match against Blackheath at a canter – Blackheath 96-5 in 20 overs, G 99-0 in 11 with an unbeaten half century from Will.
The U12s opened with a tense last over victory in their Two Counties match against Farnham but the U9s fell short against Frensham.
Hobbs Trophy match at the Oval
Congratulations to two members of the u15 team, Matty and Toby who represented Surrey Schools against London Schools in the Hobbs Trophy match at the Oval this week. These teams are drawn from state schools and both were thrilled to play at this iconic ground as they helped Surrey retain the Trophy.
The club is looking for help from the junior section in two major fundraising activities please. The Beer festival on June 2nd and 3rd and the Tea Tent the following week for the Festival match Surrey v Essex. Further details below.
Help at the Guildford Cricket Festival
Surrey v Essex in the County Championship starting on Friday June 9th.
Every year at the Cricket festival the tea tent is run by the junior section of the club. The funds raised, in the region of £5K, go towards the winter training and equipment for the junior and girls teams.
The festival this year is from Friday 9 June to Monday 12 June at Woodbridge Road and the club needs volunteers to man the tea tent. All Guildford CC members have free admission to the cricket.
If you could spare some time on any of these dates all help would be very much appreciated. All sandwiches are handmade on the day so a few hours help first thing in the morning leaves time to watch the cricket in the afternoon.
Donations of cakes, homemade or shop bought, also help to make the tea tent more profitable.

Eighth Annual Guildford Beer Festival
at Guildford Cricket Club, Friday 2 and Saturday 3 June
Special invitation to Guildford CC Junior Section Parents
The GBF is the Club’s major fund raising event and monies raised are used by the Club to invest heavy in junior cricket. The event has grown in size and popularity every year since it started in 2010. Last year, well over 4,000 people attended and ticket sales for 2017 are now underway.
WE NEED YOUR HELP! The GBF Organising Committee plans the event over many months. Over
50 staff are needed at each of the three sessions (Friday evening, Saturday afternoon and Saturday
evening). The Junior Section has committed to provide 30 adult volunteer helpers at the
afternoon session on Saturday, 3rd June.
You will assist front of house with admissions, sale of beer tokens, and the issue of beer glasses and programmes. The first two hours of the session are very busy as around 1,500 people arrive.
What’s the time commitment?
The Session starts at 12 noon. Volunteers should arrive at 11am as there is a short induction and staff training. You will be issued with a GBF T-shirt to wear.
When will I be able to leave?
We guarantee your duties will be finished by 2 pm. You are then free to go. Or you may stay and enjoy yourself at the remainder of the Saturday afternoon session.
Have I got this right? I turn up, work as a volunteer for a couple of hours helping raise funds for the Club, then I enjoy myself at the Beer Festival.
That’s it exactly. Except you missed that you keep the GBF T-shirt and we give you a free beer and voucher for a free meal. If you want to bring friends or neighbours, they will all be welcome. Note however, strictly no persons under the age of 18 are admitted, so no kids.
Will I have to serve behind the bar?
No. But if you would like to do so, we need help on the bars as well.
Do I have to handle cash and operate a till?
We need some volunteers to sell beer tokens, which involves handling cash and using an electronic cash register. It is really simple and full training is given. If, however, you prefer not to get involved with this, there are other duties.

Background on the GBF
The Eighth Annual GBF takes place on Friday 2nd (evening) and Saturday 3rd June (afternoon and evening) at Guildford Cricket Club, The Sports Ground, Woodbridge Road, Guildford GU1 4RP. The event is held in large marquees and there is ample seating outdoors and under cover. There will around 80 real ales and craft beers sourced from local independent and micro-breweries, and a good selection of ciders, wine and soft drinks. There are two high quality catering stands.
