New Pavilion still not complete

Disapprovingly, construction delays mean that the new Pavilion will not be handed over until early October.

The building contractor and Guildford Borough (which owns the freehold of The Sports Ground under a charitable trust) remain committed to ensuring that the building will be completed to a very high standard and will be a superb facility for Guildford CC Members and the local community.

The delay has of course caused considerable disruption to the Club’s operations and activities this season. The county cricket Festival in June saw the team using temporary facilities, and Surrey has moved the two Kia Women’s Cricket Super League T20 matches scheduled for Woodbridge Road in late August. The Surrey CCC v Yorkshire CCC county 2nd XI match in mid-September has also been re-scheduled.

Social Members’ reception in August

It had originally intended that the Pavilion would be open in time for the Guildford CC Cricket Week (15th-17th August) and all GCC Social Members would be invited to an opening reception.

This obviously cannot take place and we will announce a new date in the Autumn for a reception for Social Members with a tour of the new facilities.

Guildford CC v Club Cricket Conference, Wednesday 16th August

This is the centrepiece of our Cricket Week. A strong Guildford XI led by Tom Collins and including Darren and Martin Bicknell will take on the Club Cricket Conference at Woodbridge Road (1.00 pm start, 45 overs per side). All Members, past players, Life Members and Vice-Presidents are welcome to come along and enjoy the day with light refreshments for all after the game. There will be a cash bar open throughout.

Chad Murrin (Social Membership Secretary) will be present all afternoon and will be pleased to offer any Social Member present a complimentary first drink.

Please enter the ground via the gate at the Railway End (close to the Woodbridge Café). There is ample parking on the grass close to the marquee. The will be plenty of seating outside and inside the marquee.

The other Guildford CC Cricket Week events are:

  • Tuesday, 15th August – Corporate Cricket competition (12 pm start); and
  • Thursday, 16th August – a Guildford CC Select XI play the wandering side. Dolphins CC (11 am start). All Members are welcome to come along and watch, once again the bar will be open with a hog roast (£10 per person) on offer at the end of play.

Lexus Guildford Cricket Evening – Wednesday, 20th September

Lexus Guildford is one of our principal Club sponsors. Wendy Preston (General Manager) is kindly hosting a special Cricket Evening for GCC members. This is at 6.30 pm on Wednesday, 20th September at the Lexus showroom at Moorfields Road, Slyfield Industrial Estate, Guildford GU1 1TB.

Lexus Guildford Cricket Eve

Alec Stewart, OBE (Surrey CCC’s Director of Cricket) will be present and will speak. This is an excellent opportunity to meet him and other GCC members informally.

Social Members wishing to attend should advise Chad Murrin (chad_murrin@msn.com, 07767 224632).

Guildford Beer Festival

Many Social Members took advantage of the complimentary ticket issued when they joined or renewed their subscription. The GBF has become a highly popular event in the Guildford Summer calendar and is of course the Club’s major fundraising exercise.

This year’s GBF was the 8th held at The Sports Ground and the attendance was the highest yet. Nearly 5,000 people came to the three sessions.

The dates for the GBF and the Surrey County Cricket Festival will be announced in early December and posted on this website. Social Members who renew their subscription in 2018 will again receive a complimentary GBF ticket.
