Despite being well into November (and it being rather chilly and wet outside!), it’s a good opportunity for one last reflection on the 2021 season.
In October we held the senior awards evening at the club. Thanks to everyone who attended, it was incredibly pleasing to see representation from all areas of the club – and we hope that in future years we can grow this into our spotlight event for the year for all club members.
Massive congratulations go to all of the award winners, your names are now etched into GCC’s history. The awards evening was also a chance to say a big thank you to everyone who play a role in ensuring cricket runs smoothly at GCC – from coaches to umpires to scorers to parents, the list is endless. Our club is full of special people – so a huge thank you to everyone who supports us and our teams.
2021 was an interesting season for a variety of reasons. We also had some new faces around the club, including taking on our first Director of Cricket; Olly Birts. Unfirtunately, COVID-19 clearly had a big impact, but while this all presented a number of challenges, we learnt a lot as a club and on the whole took some big steps forward. Importantly, and what really shone through at the awards evening, we also managed some huge successes on the field – most notably our Women’s 1st XI winning their league.
Nonetheless, the 2021 season is now behind us and so the focus of both the main and cricket committees is very much looking forward. We are in full swing with planning for the 2022 season and over the next month or so, updates will be coming – so please do keep an eye on our social media and website for any news.
For now, try to enjoy the autumnal weather and take care.
