Update on Season Planning & Membership for 2021

Posted by:

Morning All,

I hope you are well and having a good week.

Firstly, you may have heard the sad news that the club’s former groundsman, Bill Clutterbuck, has passed away. Many of you will have known Bill from his time at the club and I am sure you will all join me in sparing some thoughts for his family and loved ones at this difficult time.

The recent government announcement was good news with regards to the cricket season.

Whilst we await the ECB guidance regarding the format of our return to cricket – the read out from the Surrey Cricket Foundation (which oversees recreational cricket in Surrey) is that they expect training and matches to be able to take place from April and therefore a full season of fixtures is anticipated across the board (juniors & seniors), likely subject to similar restrictions that were in place last year, until social distancing is relaxed.

We know you have all missed out on cricket this winter, so we are keen to be able to provide as much as we can, once we can get outside.

We expect the ECB guidance to be published imminently, hence we will update you as soon as possible after this, with dates and details for when we will be beginning training programmes across the club. But for now the headline is that we anticipate kicking things off in early April.

With this in mind the cricket and membership committees met recently and discussed club subscriptions for the season ahead. With a full season looking very likely – it has been agreed that a full membership fee will be payable for 2021 to ensure we can meet this demand.

This year it will be more important than ever that we can account for who is using the facilities at the club and membership will be key to this. Therefore, to support us in our planning and preparation for putting on cricket for you all, we would encourage you to get your membership paid up as soon as you are able:

We appreciate that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a big impact on everyone and that for some the impact has been financial. Please do get in touch with the club treasurer, if necessary, as we do not wish to see financial hardship as a barrier to playing or enjoying cricket and really hope that the club can play a big part in everyone’s summer as we look to get back on track.

If you have any questions, please do get in touch. If not – we will be in touch again soon.

Best wishes

Joe (Cricket Chairman) & Matthew (Junior Cricket Chairman)
