Guildford CC expects the highest standard of on-field and off-field behaviour from all involved in the game. This incorporates all those connected with the club, including players, officials, spectators etc. This policy is closely linked to the values found in the Guildford CC Vision, Mission and Values document.

There are three channels through which unacceptable behaviour is identified:

  • Reported behaviour from umpires and/or other clubs.
  • Behaviour which is unacceptable in the view of the captain.
  • Internal complaints from another player / official / spectator etc.

Behaviour of players is monitored by the Selection Team* on a weekly basis during selection meetings. The club Welfare Officer can become involved if a welfare or safeguarding issue arises.

Unacceptable behaviour is considered on a case-by-case basis by the Selection Team. The process of dealing with unacceptable behaviour depends on the channel though which it has been identified:

ChannelAction
Behaviour which is unacceptable in the view of the captain or comes from an internal complaint. In the first instance, the captain will discuss things with the player (amounting to a verbal warning).
Reported behaviour from umpires and/or other clubs (external complaint). In the first instance, the Cricket Chairman will discuss things with the player (amounting to a verbal warning).

Consequences for unacceptable behaviour is based on two factors:

  • The severity of the incident and/or the frequency of the incidents.
  • Past behaviour can be taken into account.

Repeated unacceptable behaviour will see players move through the disciplinary process outlined below:

Verbal Warning Written Warning Match Ban Expulsion from the club.

All actions taken regarding the disciplinary process are recorded and documented by the Selection Team. Any appeals regarding the decisions of the Selection Team can go to the Guildford CC Chairman whose decision is final.

*The Selection Team consists of the Cricket Chairman, Club Coach and Men’s and Women’s Section captains (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th team captains only – i.e. not including the U18, U19 and U21 team captains).
