Duty of Care and Safeguarding Children

GCC is committed to safeguarding children within the game through the continuous implementation and monitoring of relevant ECB policies and procedures which ensure that everyone knows and accepts their responsibility in relation to a duty of care for children.

By creating a safety awareness culture, GCC is committed to:

  • Implementing the ‘ECB Safe Hands – Cricket’s Policy for Safeguarding Children’ 
  • The continuous visibility and promotion of this policy to all club members
  • Ensuring Club Welfare Officers attend the required ECB and NSPCC training
  • Ensuring that all coaches are qualified and comply with the‘ECB Coaches Code of Conduct
  • Adhering to and promoting the club’s ‘Code of Conduct for Cricket Club Members and Guests’ and the 'Code of Conduct for Young People'
  • Ensuring that all individuals who will have regular, direct or unsupervised contact with children are recruited and appointed in accordance with the ‘Recruitment Policy’ as outlined in ‘ECB Safe Hands’ and have completed the required level of Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check
  • Continually assessing the requirement for CRB checks on all club roles • Ensuring emergency procedures are in place for dealing with injuries / accidents, and the recording of incidents, accidents and outcomes
  • Practices and systems that ensure a) competent first aid is at hand b) medical conditions which may be aggravated by participation in cricket are known to coaches c) the club has the contact details of parents / carers / guardians for all young people under the age of 18 years old
